Frangipani (Plumeria) are a distinctive tropical tree that will add character and charm to your garden. Their rich, fragrant and colourful flowers bloom prolifically over the warmer months of the year. Their delightful colours range from whites and pale pinks, to vibrant reds and yellows.

Q: How are Frangipani produced?

Frangipani are grown from cuttings, so they are always true to form – meaning they’ll have the same growing and flowering characteristics of the parent tree the cutting came from.

Q: How do I care for a Frangipani?

Frangipani love the full sun, so choose a sunny position to grow in a good, free draining soil. In the ground, we recommend fertilising with Nitrophoska every 2 months to encourage healthy growth and flowering.

Q: Will they grow in pots?

You can grow any variety of Frangipani in a pot as they have relatively small root systems. They will require regular water and fertiliser when grown in pots to keep them in a productive growing condition. There are a number of dwarf varieties that will keep a smaller stature in pots including Dwarf Pink Petite and Cherry Clusters.

In pots, we recommend fertilising every 2 months with a slow-release Osmocote, and water regularly to keep foliage healthy and green.

Q: Are all varieties deciduous?

While many varieties will lose their leaves over the cooler months of the year, there are a number of evergreen varieties that will hold their foliage all year round. These include the Singapore Frangipani (Plumeria obtusa), the Hammerhead Frangipani (Plumeria pudica) and the Dwarf Pink Petite (Plumeria obtusa Pink Petite).

Q: How often do they flower?

Frangipani flower for a long period during the warmer months of the year from around December to April, promoting a warm and vibrant tropical feel right on time for Christmas.
